I never liked the screaming vocals of black metal... HOWEVER, this album changed that. It's blackgaze with a touch of J-pop into it, and it's one of the most pleasent combination. The lyrics are disjointed and abstract but are meaningful, lots to deconstruct here.

Takes me back to my high school classroom during the days of binging Inio Asano's old manga scanlations before anything was licensed. At that time, I was discovering many kinds of Asian shoegaze, but I've never heard anything like this. Makes me think of Pasteboard, Supecar, and Midnight Pingpong a bit, and it's funny bc the first two I listen have blue album covers too.

Traditional in a "telepath" sense, but Beyond Reality is also one of a few records from his catalogue that sticks out to me a lot due to it's single "night-and-day" change. Softer, lusher, more warmth, and gentler to the touch than a lot of his early mall muzak material. All in all, it's a great album that was perfectly crafted to be played on nights that are meant to unwind to.
